BUSH KINDER

We believe a Bush Kinder program pushes the boundaries of traditional education and care. Through building strong connections to the natural world, the Bush Kinder program can help to develop resilient, confident children. It will enhance not only early learning experiences, but will also positively influence children's health, growth and development, and will plant the seeds for their understanding of sustainability and conservation.

Canberra is the bush capital of Australia; we are lucky to be surrounded by outdoor settings that can inspire and promote exploration and learning in children. Canberra Early Learning's Bush Kinder Program aims to provide an active, natural experience for children. The Canberra Early Learning Bush Kinder operates as a weekly excursion to a local nature reserve; children are supported in the outdoor environment to learn, take risks, engage and explore. The concepts of sustainability and conservation begin with a child's early interactions with nature.

It will enhance not only early learning experiences, but will also positively influence children's health, growth and development, and will plant the seeds for their understanding of sustainability and conservation.

Some positive outcomes include:

  • Children will be more confident and more able to take risks.
  • Children will be more active.
  • Children will facilitate their own learning.
  • Children will be able to assess and problem solve more effectively.
  • Children will be engaged in real life experiences.
  • Children will begin to understand and respect our natural environment

"I love the bush kinder concept for my children. Nature is the best classroom to learn, discover and grow. It really excites the kids and I see it as a wonderful opportunity to build their confidence and resilience."

"I am really excited that my son gets to participate in the Bush Kinder program, it will provide invaluable experiences for him to take the lead in his own learning through exploration and experimentation in a natural environment. Bush Kinder programs provides opportunities for kids to build resilience, problem solving and social skills, as well as participating in open ended exploration that will assist in developing their imagination, reasoning and understanding of their world. I believe that the experiences that my son will have through the participation in this program is a necessary building block in his early childhood development and education, learning through play in a different and varied natural environment. The inclusion of a bush kinder program in Yerribi Ponds preschool program was a big selling point when looking at childcare providers and I feel lucky that my sons will get to experience this invaluable program".
